The first day of fall hit this week, and the air feels different. One day the boys are running barefoot in the yard, and the next morning I’m reaching for my cozy sweater and putting on my fuzzy slippers. I live for summer, but there is something still comforting about the crispness of the air and the smell of the wood burning fireplaces in the neighbourhood, the cozy blankets, and obviously the beautiful changing colours of the trees. But if I’m honest, fall can also feel heavy.
The days get shorter, the nights come quicker, and I find myself dragging through the afternoons (dark when we wake up, dark by dinner time…)
As moms, we carry so much already, and when the sunlight fades, so does our energy. If you’ve ever wondered, “Why am I so tired in fall?” the answer often has to do with seasonal shifts in light and routine.

Why Seasonal Changes Can Feel So Different
When summer slips away, so does one of our biggest natural sources of Vitamin D: the sun. Our skin produces Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, but in fall and winter the days are shorter, the sunlight is weaker, and we naturally get less of it. Our routines also change; we spend less time outside, and everything naturally slows down.
No wonder our bodies crave cozy blankets and slower rhythms. It’s nature’s way of telling us to rest. But rest isn’t always an option for moms. We need steadiness, resilience, and energy, even in the dark.
Seasonal Habits I Lean On In the Fall
Once fall hits, I try to stay mindful of how much time we spend outdoors, the foods we are reaching for, and how we structure our days. Simple habits like fresh air, nourishing meals, and being intentional about what we put into our bodies can help us feel more grounded as the seasons change.
1. Soak up the sun, even in the cold.
Bundle up and head outside, even just for 10–20 minutes, especially if it’s first thing in the morning. Let your face and hands feel the light. The light may be weaker, but your body still responds.
2. Add nutrient rich foods to your meals.
I like to be more intentional with the foods we add to our diet as the seasons change:
- Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, or sardines
- Egg yolks
- Sunlight-exposed mushrooms
Think scrambled eggs for breakfast, salmon sheet-pan dinners, or cozy mushroom soup (or smoked salmon eggs benedict… yes please!). Simple meals can bring big benefits.
3. The best of the above: Pair food and sunlight.
If the weather allows, try eating lunch outdoors with the kids bundled in sweaters. A simple picnic outside combines two natural sources of wellness at once.
Why I Choose To Also Include Supplements
For me, supplements are a personal choice that I make to help simplify my routine during busy seasons of life, which are often as a mom. I like having options that feel easy and consistent, especially during fall and winter.
The key is choosing a supplement you’ll actually use consistently. Here are two I’ve tried and trust.
Arbonne BeWell Vitamin D3 & K2 Spray
This one feels a little more “fun” and family-friendly. Arbonne’s spray is vegan, pineapple-flavored, and combines Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2.
- Easy spray format — no swallowing pills, and it tastes good (great for the kids!)
- Made from sustainably sourced algae
- Vegan, dairy free, and gluten free
- Cost: $42.40
I personally love this one for daily use because it feels effortless and even a little enjoyable, especially on busy mornings.

Which is Best for You?
If you want something simple and strong, Organika’s drops are fantastic. If you want something fun, vegan, and paired with K2, Arbonne’s spray might be your go-to. For me, the best option is the one that fits my routine and feels easiest to stick with.
Some Fall Encouragement
If you’re already feeling that fall heaviness, you’re not alone.
Fall is hard enough as it is… It’s the end of summer, that beautiful weather and freedom, and the beginning of dark nights, colder weather, and busier schedules.
It’s not just in your head. Our bodies and homes naturally shift with the season.
Taking care of myself with sunshine, nourishing meals, and occasionally high-quality supplements is a way I like to bring light back into the day (almost literally).
When we glow from the inside out, it spills over into our homes, our kids, and the rhythms that carry us. Let’s make this fall not just about surviving the shorter days, but about thriving in them.
