Why I Chose WordPress.com For My Blog As a Stay At Home Mom (and Why It Still Feels Right)
This post is sponsored by Automattic. While this content is part of a paid partnership, the perspective and experience shared are true, completely my own, and based on my real use of WordPress for my blog, Let’s Glow.
When I started my WordPress.com blog in 2025, it wasn’t because I had tons of extra time or a perfect plan. It was actually during a season where my days were already loud. I was a working mom before my second son was born. I was very productivity-driven and very externally validated. And when I became a stay at home mom, suddenly, my life slowed down, and I needed something that felt grounding.
I tried social media for a few years but it didn’t seem like the right fit. But after I started my Let’s Glow brand, I felt like I had more to say than what could be conveyed through social media. I especially didn’t want something that disappeared in a feed after 24 hours. I wanted something mine.
That’s when I decided to start a blog, and more specifically, why I chose WordPress.com as the foundation for Let’s Glow.
I searched “how to start a blog” more times than I can count. And I was inspired by so many successful bloggers who had the same story as me. And after lots of reading, what I realized quickly is that WordPress isn’t just a blogging platform. It’s a place to build something that can grow with you, at your pace, and for me, that meant through different seasons of motherhood, wellness, faith, and intentional living.
In this post, I’m going to share 5 reasons why I chose WordPress.com, how it supports real moms with real lives, and how choosing the right foundation for your business or creative outlet can help set you in the right direction.

The 5 Reasons I Chose WordPress To Start My Blog
1. Starting a WordPress Blog Gave Me Real Ownership
Something I learned after being on social media for years is that you never really own anything. All of your hard work, content, images, videos, captions… it all belongs to someone else the second you click “Post”. And because of that, you also have to play by their rules. And work according to their algorithm.
I was tired of chasing the next viral trend. I wanted something that was mine. Something that I could work on, and have it truly belong to me and my brand, and have it grow quietly in the background.
The best part about blogging on WordPress.com is I can focus a few hours a day on it when I’m feeling focused, set it up right, and it will grow while I am folding laundry, making snacks, giving baths, or even watching Netflix. And during busy seasons, it still grows even when I don’t open my laptop.
My blog isn’t dependent on an algorithm that can change overnight. It’s not at risk of disappearing because a platform shifts priorities. My content doesn’t fade away if I don’t post every day or respond to every comment.
And now that I have experienced that feeling, that sense of ownership, and seeing how my content and hard work grows over time instead of disappears, I can’t imagine going back to relying only on social media as the tool to grow my business and brand.
With WordPress:
- I own my content
- I choose how my site grows
- I decide what belongs and what doesn’t

2. WordPress Works for Busy Mom Bloggers, Not Just Tech Experts
I’m not a developer or a website designer. I don’t know how to code and I barely know what SEO is. I’m just a mom who writes during nap time, early in the mornings, or after bedtime. I am learning as I go, improving my blog posts and website appearance all the time.
WordPress.com meets me exactly there.
When I first started, I didn’t need to understand code. I didn’t need to be “good with tech.” And I didn’t need to hire a website designer.
WordPress allows me to:
- Write posts when inspiration hits and easily save drafts (perfect for moms!)
- Organize content around motherhood, wellness, homemaking, and wellness (or whatever your topics might be!)
- Add tools and plugins slowly as my blog grows and learn what ones work for me and what don’t
- Keep changing and improving my site as my knowledge and goals grow
- Customize my site with themes, widgets, blocks and more
From being a beginner blogger to learning things along the way, WordPress.com has been the best choice I could have made for creating my little corner of the internet.

3. My WordPress Blog Is Flexible
This was probably the biggest one for me. As I mentioned above, I was tired of being a slave to my phone in order to grow my brand and business. With a WordPress blog, I can focus when I need to, and actually live my life and be a mom when I need to, as well. The flexibility with plugins and how the platform grows alongside you as your blogging skills grow has shown me that I made the right choice by creating my brand on WordPress.
With each blog post I can do so many things. I can share links and resources, images, products, and more for my audience to get the most out of what I have to offer.
4. My WordPress Blog Helps My Business Grow
My WordPress blog allows me to not only write and publish posts on my own schedule and on my own terms, it uses a system that not only organizes your back end but optimizes your site for SEO (Search Engine Optimization — how your site is found on search engines like Google).
With categories, internal links, image alt text, and search visibility, WordPress tools all work together quietly in the background to help my blog grow even when I am offline.

5. My WordPress Blog Is Beginner Friendly
Like I mentioned earlier, I didn’t know much about anything to do with web design, code, SEO, or even about what to include in a blog post or website to make the most of your blogging journey. WordPress.com makes it easy with tools like JetPack, WooCommerce, WooCommerce Marketplace, Pressables, and more. I was able to explore plugins that allowed me to customize my site and make it compliant for monetization while also implementing growth tools like email opt-ins.

A Little Glow Encouragement for Your New WordPress Blog
A while ago I started leaving little Glow encouragements at the end of my blog posts. This one is simple: You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. I literally had no idea what I was doing when I started my WordPress blog. But the ownership, simplicity, flexibility, built in tools, and plugins for growth, customization and monetization have made my blogging journey so simple and enjoyable, which was so important to me as a mom and new blogger.
